Frequently Asked Questions

What are they made out of?

All the shells are real. Many come from my dinner supplied from Fish Tales in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Some of the larger shells I source from Mexico.

They are held together by an epoxy clay. I use gouache paint and a food safe art resin to give it the shine.

Can I use them for food?

Yes! I find they are the perfect holder for olives and anchovies. Do not put them in the microwave or dishwasher to make sure they last.

Can they stain?

Unfortunately, yes. They can have some staining. I avoid putting foods with turmeric, beets or any foods that dye my fingers on them. If they are exposed to direct sunlight for many months they may take on a yellow tone, so don’t leave them in a sunny window.

Can I use them as an ashtray?

No, they shouldn’t be used with an open flame. Flames can leave a burn mark on resin.

Do you ship internationally?

Not at the moment. I will soon. If you have a specific request please email me and we can try to work it out.
